A day in the Boundary Waters

In an effort to find some moose we ventured out into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. We rented a canoe from Kiwishiwi Lodge which is on Lake One. After almost crashing into a few oncoming groups we finally learned to paddle in sync so we'd go straight. We did two portages (each way) which was a great exerience showing teamwork between all of us. Seth carried the the bags and seats that he and Sam sat on. Sam carried the four paddles, I carried my camera and Nick's bag. Nick carried the canoe. Pretty impressive how each of the times the kids knew what to do and did it without complaining. I've always been nervous about going up there with them and having to carry everything of theirs but they proved me wrong!

We canoed out to an open camp site and had lunch. The area we were in was recovering from a fire at some point in the recent past. We watched a few groups paddle by us, besides that it was just us and nature. We saw a lot of birds but not much else. Unfortunately, no moose spottings either.

Either way, it was a beautiful day.

Moose Track Adventures

Our summer getaway begins today. We are camping at Moose Track Adventures off of Farm Lake which is just Northeast of Ely, Minnesota. Across the gravel road is another camp site and then the lake. We have quick access to our boat, swimming and fishing. Seth and Sam slept in their own tent and we slept in our new tent that kept us dry.

Kitty Soft Paws

Seth:
"Why are we exiting and now getting back on going the way we came?"
Sam: "Because Kitty Soft Paws missed our turn!"
Nick: "It's all Poncho Distracto's fault." (That being Sam).

Whose child is this?

The other day Adelynn was sitting on the rocking chair with me while I fed Noah. Without knowing what happened I heard a thud and crying. I wasn't sure what she hit until the next day.
Can you tell?

If not, here is another angle.
This was the following day, roughly 36 hours after she fell.

She looked so different to me. Like she wasn't Adelynn anymore. Poor girl.

She tolerated having it touched and acted her normal self so we held off on any trips to the ER. Even with it getting bigger between 12 and 36 hours. The pictures above we're at 36 hours, when the eggie was at its largest.

Raingutter Regatta

It's Raingutter time!

Seth, through no fault of his own, had to use his boat from last year. We didn't think he was coming since he was with his dad. Last night we found out he was going to make it and there wasn't enough time for him to customize his boat. He made a few adjustment and his boat floated much better this time around.

Pittsburgh Bound

Our friend and Nick's second cousin drives truck for Iron Horse Express out of Faribault. He takes loads, typically industrial air conditioners, and heads east every Sunday.
He asked about Seth going truckin' with him. When Seth found out he was thrilled. Especially driving out to Pittsburgh since he has never been that far north in the eastern states.

We packed him a few things, including his Nintendo 3Ds, camera and his Samsung Tablet.

He'll be out on the road for close to five days. I'm sure he'll have a lot to say when he gets home.

Ready~Set~Go

Adelynn's favorite thing to do while visiting Grandma and Grandpa Loken in Nisswa is going for rides on thief golf cart.

Want to go for a ride? is all she needed to hear. She's bolt to the golf cart, assume her seat next to the side rail in the front seat and patiently wait.

When we were all loaded up to go she'd look over to the driver and say "Ready. Set. Goooo" She would fly back a little on the acceleration and smile. If you were a lucky person walking by, she would throw her arm in the air and rock her wrist back and forth as she did in the parade.

Afterwards, she'd sit there until she was ready to hop off.
